  19. <p>     When the chairman of the Phillips Exeter Academy drama
  20. department was arrested and convicted of possessing and
  21. distributing child pornography last fall, officials of the New
  22. Hampshire prep school assured worried parents that no students
  23. appeared in the confiscated materials. But court documents
  24. released last week showed otherwise: the teacher, Larry Lane
  25. Bateman, had surreptitiously videotaped undressed students in
  26. a campus dormitory and assigned other students in his charge to
  27. make sexually explicit tapes of themselves, which he kept.
  28. Bateman, 51, is to be sentenced this week.
